The Capital Area Council of Governments has deployed Text to 9-1-1 service region wide after successfully testing that the region’s 31 public safety answering points (PSAPs), or 9-1-1 call centers, can reliably receive and respond to SMS text messages. The service is now activated on the four major cellphone service providers —Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility, Sprint, and T-Mobile — in Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis and Williamson counties.

The Williamson County and Cities Health District has confirmed the West Nile Virus in a mosquito trap sample located in Cedar Park. This testing is part of the City of Cedar Park’s proactive participation in the Williamson County and Cities Health District’s mosquito management program.  The positive test was indicated in a lab result from the Texas Department of State Health Services lab in Austin.  There are currently no reported human cases of West Nile Virus in Cedar Park.  Williamson County has seen no reported human cases since last fall.

Brie Rippner of Rippner Tennis was announced as the new tennis pro and manager of the Tennis Center at the Southwest Williamson County Regional Park, 3005 C.R. 175, Leander, Texas, effective October 1, 2017. The public is invited to a grand opening of Rippner Tennis on Saturday, November 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. The event includes refreshments, clinics, doubles mixes, and a pro exhibition. For juniors, there will be clinics and junior play all day.

The On-Site Sewage Facility (OSSF) Program is now part of the Williamson County Engineer/Road and Bridge Division. The OSSF offices relocated to the Williamson County Central Maintenance Facility, 3151 S.E. Inner Loop, Georgetown, Texas.

Texas has more natural disasters than any other state, recording 26 major disasters since the year 2000. To help residents create plans for emergencies, the Williamson County Office of Emergency Management launched a new mobile app called WILCO Ready. WILCO Ready is a comprehensive mobile application designed specifically to aid in personal and family planning, emergency communications planning, emergency status sharing, local disaster mapping, and provide updated information provided during emergencies. WILCO Ready is available as a free download for Android and Apple devices from the app store.
