Corridor H / Sam Bass Road

Location: Sam Bass Road from RM 1431 to Wyoming Springs Drive (also known as Corridor H) in Precinct 1 and 3.

Overview: Williamson County is planning to widen Sam Bass Road between RM 1431 and Wyoming Springs Drive to enhance safety, improve mobility, and meet current and future traffic needs as the county continues to grow. The Corridor H / Sam Bass Road Project includes reconstructing Sam Bass Road as a three-lane roadway with a continuous center-turn lane and shoulders, adding a shared-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians, and making intersection improvements. Construction funding for the first interim phase of improvements has been identified as part of the voter-approved 2019 Williamson County Road Bond Program.

Status: Interim traffic signal improvements have been completed at the intersections with RM 1431, Walsh Ranch Boulevard and Great Oaks Drive. Utility relocations are underway. Construction will begin in spring 2023 and is anticipated to be completed in mid-2025. Sign up for construction updates here

Future Expansion: Paired with intersection improvements, the County’s plan for a three-lane roadway is expected to address existing travel needs. However, growth projections and traffic models suggest that additional capacity will be needed in the future. The current schematic for the roadway allows for future expansion to six lanes, consistent with the City of Round Rock’s Transportation Plan and the Williamson County Long-Range Transportation Plan

While the County has prepared the ultimate roadway schematic for Sam Bass Road, additional lanes will not be built until the need arises and funding becomes available for ROW acquisition and construction. There is currently no timeline or funding identified for the ultimate six-lane expansion.
