It is the duty of the Commissioners Court to appoint people to serve on the Emergency Service Districts’ (ESD) Board of Directors. ESDs are political subdivisions of the State of Texas, which may support or provide local emergency services, including rural fire prevention and control services. ESDs may impose a sales and use tax and/or property tax to support or provide these services. ESD tax revenues may be used to hire full-time emergency personnel, contract with other entities that have full-time fire and emergency medical departments, and/or purchase new equipment and facilities. There are ten ESDs in Williamson County.
A map of the ESD service areas is available on the County’s Website. The County will be accepting applications for these volunteer positions until the positions are filled. To be eligible, an individual must live or own property within the service district of the ESD. Experience in business and financial management is necessary. Experience in fire protection is a plus. Resumes should be sent to the County Judge’s Office, 710 S. Main Street, Suite 101, Georgetown, TX, 78626. The resumes will be reviewed, and the Commissioners Court will be appointing individuals to the positions as needed. Term appointments are two (2) years, they begin January 1st and end December 31st.
