PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, El Amistad Club of Round Rock is a non-profit, civic organization with the goal of inspiring the leaders of tomorrow; and

WHEREAS, El Amistad Club was founded in 1968 by civic leaders with dedicated commitment to Education, Community Service, Recognition of Veterans, and the Promotion of Hispanic Cultural Awareness; and

WHEREAS, over the last 50 years, El Amistad Club has awarded over $2,000,000 in scholarships to thousands of graduating high school students desiring to further their education; and

WHEREAS, in 2017 alone, El Amistad Club awarded over $90,000 in scholarships to deserving students in the Round Rock and surrounding school districts; and

WHEREAS, this year El Amistad Club was recently recognized as a Round Rock Community Legend and will proudly celebrate "50 Years of Giving"; and

WHEREAS, El Amistad Club lives up to its motto:  El amistad es mas que oro! Friendship is worth more than gold. 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAMED, that the Williamson County Commissioners Court hereby congratulates El Amistad Club of Round Rock on their first 50 years of achievement and wishes them continued success on their next 50 years.

May is full of fun activities in Williamson County! Bring the family to  Pioneer Day with the Williamson Museum in Old Settlers Park or the Austin Area Train Show at the WilCo Expo. Mark your calendars for election days May 5 and 22. Be sure to check our website for your sample ballot before you go. There are also opportunities to make your opinions heard with surveys and open houses. It is a shower of activities!

Commissioner Cook speaks on the expansion of the Brushy Creek Trail at the Dam. Below are her remarks:

We’ve waited far longer than we had hoped to have continuity in the Brushy Creek Regional Trail, however, this section reflects an upgrade in our trail design to resist erosion and continuous maintenance challenges.  With the backdrop of a newly rehabilitated dam reminding us the importance of flood control in the Brushy Creek watershed, this deeply loved trail will prevail thru our many heavy rains and give us many, many years of support for our outdoor endeavors.

I want to thank all of you for coming today.

To Jonathan Wagner and Brent Baker of studio 16:19, thank you for all your work on the landscape design for this trail.

My gratitude to the work of ESD Southwest and Robert Mashewske for the testing of our concrete – counting on it lasting for my lifetime despite the heavy load of people who will be using this section of the trail.

And finally, thank you to Lamont Navarrette and Mark Williamson of Westar Construction for persevering and making this trail a reality.

The Williamson County Comprehensive Parks Master Plan is in the process of being updated. In April, a series of four public townhall meetings are being held to see the results of the citizen survey and share preliminary recommendations of the proposed plan.
