The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (WCRAS) is at critical capacity and is offering free adoptions to help make space for the flood of animals that continue to come in after the 4th of July celebrations. Appointments are not required but are recommended to reduce wait times. To see all of the medium-to-large adult dogs and adult cats that qualify for this special, go to wilcopets.org, then send an email to adoption@wilco.org to schedule an appointment for the shortest wait time.

The structure fire near the Texas Department of Public Safety training facility off Pecan Branch near Florence is now fully contained. According to the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS), the fire spread to approximately 600 acres. Crews had been unable to accurately map the size of the fire until Tuesday, July 5, due to difficult terrain. Firefighters from TIFMAS remain on scene and are conducting mop-up operations. They are expected to be back on site, Wednesday, July 6.

While the fireworks industry has voluntarily limited the sale of stick rockets and missiles with fins or rudders in Williamson County, fireworks are still allowed in parts of Williamson County. Williamson County Veterans Services Office will be closed to the public on Friday, July 1, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., to allow for team building now that the office is fully staffed. Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, July 5.
