Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter Approaching 200 Dogs in Shelter, Asks Community for Help

The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (WCRAS) is approaching 200 dogs in the shelter, an unsustainably critical capacity, and is reaching out to request immediate help from the community.

With 190 dogs currently within the four walls of the shelter, staff is stretched far beyond its capacity to provide the level of care each of the animals at the shelter deserves. The community can help by adopting, fostering, sharing, volunteering, or donating.

With Valentine’s Day coming up next Tuesday, the shelter has lots of dogs to choose from to give some extra love to, and has created a new “Preventing Euthanasia List.” This list consists of dogs at the shelter who would do well in almost any home environment. By encouraging the adoption of any of these dogs, the shelter will be able to make space and provide more thorough care to the animals that remain at the shelter and provide more focus to those dogs with higher needs.

Adoptions of medium-to-large adult dogs are $10. Schedule an appointment by emailing adoption@wilco.org. This will help to reduce your wait time for finding your new best friend. Fosters are needed to help make space and those who can help through either fostering or adopting are encouraged to come to the shelter. Previews of our adoptable animals and more details about our fostering programs can be found at wilcopets.org.

Sharing the pleas for help on social media to help spread the word about the crisis is also a good way to help the shelter. Volunteers can help in many ways at the shelter, which makes taking care of all of the animals possible. Donations can also help to fund programs that allow the shelter to better manage space crises.

The community’s assistance is needed to continue the WCRAS’s life-saving mission. Please help.
