Operation Green Light for Veterans Nov. 7-13

 In advance of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday, the Williamson County Commissioners Court approved a resolution supporting Operation Green Light for Veterans and will light the historic courthouse dome green from November 7 through 13, 2022.  

Operation Green Light for Veterans is a new national collaborative initiative of the National Association of Counties (NACo) to support military veterans, as well as raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by many veterans the resources that are available at the county, state and federal level to assists veterans and their families.  

Starting at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7, County Judge Bill Gravell and Williamson County Veteran Services Officer Juan Amaya will hold a short program on the east steps of the historic county courthouse, 710 S. Main Street, honoring veterans before the courthouse dome is illuminated in green lights.  

“Williamson County greatly appreciates the service of our brave military veterans. We want to acknowledge their immeasurable sacrifices to preserve freedom with this special recognition for all they have done for our country,” said County Judge Bill Gravell.  

Residents and businesses are also encouraged to participate in Operation Green Light for Veterans by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends.  

In addition, the bell on the top of the historic courthouse once again be ringing on the hour starting at 6 p.m. on Nov. 7. The courthouse bell has not been in working order for several years. The county contracted with Southwest Museum of Clock and Watches of Lockhart to perform the repairs.
