Local Assistant District Attorneys earn recognition as Criminal Law Specialist
The Williamson County District Attorney’s Office proudly announces that both Andrew Erwin and Will Ward have earned Board Certification in Criminal Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. They join 6 other prosecutors in the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office with this distinction. This honor is shared by less than 1% of all attorneys licensed to practice law in Texas.

Board Certification is offered in 25 specific areas of law to attorneys. Board Certified attorneys must be licensed for at least five years, devote a required percentage of practice to a specialty area for at least three years, attend continuing education seminars, pass an evaluation by fellow lawyers and judges and pass a 6-hour written examination. Initial Certification is valid for five years. Attorneys must apply for recertification every five years and meet substantial involvement, peer review, and continuing legal education requirements for their specialty area.

Mr. Erwin grew up in the Central Texas area and is a 2010 graduate of William and Mary Law School where he finished in the top 5% of his class. He joined the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office in 2017 after spending many years as a prosecutor in the McLennan County District Attorney’s Office.

Mr. Ward began his second career as a prosecutor in Brazos County after serving in the United States Marine Corps for nearly 10 years. He is a very proud magna cum laude graduate of the Law School at Texas Tech University having earned his J.D. in December of 2011. He joined the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office in 2016.

“Having earned this recognition personally in 2004, I know how difficult this process is,” said Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick, “I am exceedingly proud of these two lawyers who earned this certification during a pandemic while at the same time fully dedicating themselves to protecting and serving the residents of Williamson County.”
