FHS Holds 24-hour Vax-A-Thon This Weekend

Family Hospital Systems will hold a 24-hour vaccination hub to begin on Saturday, March 6 at 8 a.m., and end on Sunday, March 7 at 8 a.m. at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex in Austin.  This one-of-a-kind event is designed to increase vaccination awareness while encouraging residents to kick COVID-19 out of Williamson County.  Vax-A-Thon will only be open to eligible people in Categories 1A and 1B who register with FHS to receive the vaccine.  Participants will be taken from the Williamson County waitlist and will receive an email invitation to register for their vaccine appointment.  The public is advised that no vaccines will be administered to those without an appointment. To join the County's centralized vaccine waitlist, click here

“Our goal is to ensure the people who are generally unable to come to our vaccine hub during our regular hours are able to receive their first vaccine doses,” said Dr. Nathaniel Greenwood, chief medical officer for Family Hospital Systems.  “By providing vaccines in this manner, it is our hope that we will reach a population that has been underserved.”

FHS will also collect nonperishable items to be donated to Hill Country Community Ministries.  “In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and after the recent winter storm, Family Hospital Systems wants to do its part to encourage our community to donate a food item to help those in need,” said Dr. Henry Higgins, CEO of Family Hospital Systems.

“Williamson County appreciates the unique ways that FHS is adapting and working in order to vaccinate our residents,” said County Judge Bill Gravell.  “Not only are they a great vaccination partner, but they are a great community partner by hosting this food drive in order to replenish a food bank that has been heavily utilized during the pandemic.”

As an added bonus, FHS staff will celebrate the 1980s with music, movies, and costumes throughout the event.  Participants are asked to vote for their favorite staff costume at www.familyhospitalsystems.com.
