Williamson County Allocates $1.46 Million in CDBG Funds; Public Comment Open Until July 31

The Williamson County Commissioners Court approved a recommended allocation of $1,467,836 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding in the county’s 2019 Annual Action Plan. Funds are intended to primarily benefit low- to moderate-income persons in Williamson County.

The public now is invited to review and comment on the county’s 2019-2023 Consolidated Plan, the 2019 Annual Action Plan and the updated Citizen Participation Plan from July 1 to July 31, 2019.  Plans are available to review on the website at http://www.wilco.org/cdbg  and at the city halls for the cities of Cedar Park, Coupland, Georgetown, Granger, Hutto, Jarrell, Leander, Liberty Hill, Taylor and Weir. Written comments must be received by July 31, 2019 to:
Honorable Bill Gravell, County Judge
710 Main Street
Georgetown, TX 78626

In addition, a public hearing regarding the Consolidated Plan and Annual Action Plan will be held by the Williamson County CDBG office on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. at the Williamson County Courthouse located at 710 Main Street, Georgetown, TX 78626. Please use the 8th Street entrance. The purpose of the hearing is to obtain public comments.

In the 2019 Annual Action Plan, 14 projects were recommended for funding ranging from $300,000 to $15,000 with five alternate projects selected. If a funded project has cost savings, slows down or discovers a barrier to being completed, an alternate project from the current Annual Action Plan may be selected to continue the timely spending of grant funds.

Among the larger allocations, both the Georgetown Housing Authority and Lone Star Circle of Care Project Headwaters will receive $300,000 each. The Georgetown Housing Authority will use the funds to replace deteriorated sewer lines that pose a threat to life, health or safety of the public housing residents. Lone Star Circle of Care Project Headwaters will receive $300,00 to rehabilitate Taylor’s West End School to accommodate Taylor’s Meals on Wheels Program and Senior Center activities. Renovations on the first floor include a kitchen food pantry, meal packing and serving area, dining area, multipurpose room, offices, and restrooms. The second floor renovations include a waiting room, program registration area, lab, provider and business office space, a nurse station, procedure room, exam rooms, break room, vitals area and storage for Lone Star Circle of Care.

“The Community Development Block Grant program is an amazing tool to help our local communities to be successful,” said County Judge Bill Gravell. “This program helps all of our communities, large and small, to address the needs of low- to moderate-income families.”

Other organizations receiving funding include Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County, Williamson County Crisis Center Hope Alliance, City of Leander Activity Center, Granger Housing Authority, Taylor Dickey Museum and Multipurpose Center, City of Georgetown Home Repair Program, Bluebonnet Trails Community MHMR Center, Williamson County EMS Mobile Outreach and Community Health Paramedicine, Interagency Support Council of Eastern Williamson County, Inc. and The Key2Free. A full list of funded programs can be found here: http://www.wilco.org/cdbg
