On Tuesday, Governor Greg Abbott announced his appointment of Scott K. Field, former Justice on the Third Court of Appeals, to the newly-created 480^th District Court in Williamson County.  This appointment is effective October 1, 2022.   

When he takes the bench, Justice Field will be the first Judge to preside over the 480^th District Court, which is the first new district court created in Williamson County since 2007.  

“We are grateful to Governor Abbott for appointing Justice Field to join us on the bench in Williamson County,” said Judge Betsy Lambeth, who serves as the Local Administrative District Judge.  “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in varied areas of the law.  We look forward to the good work he will do for the residents of Williamson County.”  

Justice Field, who is currently a partner at Butler Snow, previously served as a Justice on the Austin-based Third Court of Appeals for six years and before that was an appellate and trial lawyer.  He is a frequent speaker in the Central Texas legal community on a variety of subject areas, including appellate law, ethics and administrative law.

“I am grateful for the Governor’s appointment and am excited for the opportunity to return to the judiciary and to serve Williamson County in this role.  I’m ready to get started,” said Justice Field.

“Williamson County is growing – part of responding to that growth is making sure that the justice system has the capacity to serve the people and businesses that are moving here.  Justice Field and the 480^thDistrict Court are an important part of creating that capacity for justice, and I look forward to working alongside him as we continue Williamson County’s tradition of being one of the safest places to live,” said County Judge Bill Gravell.  

The 480^th District Court was created by the 87^th Legislature as a court of general jurisdiction and will hear primarily civil and family cases.
