Williamson County to Save More Than $20 Million on Interest Payments

The Williamson County Commissioners Court approved authorizing a debt defeasance, or paying down debt, in the amount of $42 million in principle and interest. This was included in the County’s FY20 budget. The debt defeasance will result in a savings of approximately $20,264,667 in interest payments. Williamson County issues debt to finance long-term capital projects, such as roads, parks, and buildings. Approximately 84% of the county’s debt is from voter-approved road and park bonds. For nearly 20 years, Williamson County has saved more than $135.6 million in interest through its efforts to pay off debt early and refinancing.

Williamson County to Host Free COVID-19 Testing in Georgetown

Williamson County Office of Emergency Management, in partnership with the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) and in coordination with the City of Georgetown, will be hosting free COVID-19 testing August 18, 19,and 20. Testing will be conducted at the Georgetown Community Center located at 445 E. Morrow St., Georgetown, TX 78626. Testing will go from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will remain operational until supplies last. This is a walk-up site and will not require an appointment prior to being tested. People interested in getting tested will be asked to park and line up for their turn. It is important to note that this is a cheek swab test, so people cannot eat, drink, or use tobacco products 20 minutes prior to the test. Please bring a cell phone for on-site registration.

County Judge Signs Order Allowing Gatherings in Excess of 10 People in the Unincorporated Areas of the County

County Judge Bill Gravell has signed an order effective Thursday, August 13, at 5 p.m., permitting Williamson County residents to have outdoor gatherings with more than 10 people in the unincorporated areas of Williamson County provided the gatherings comply with Governor Greg Abbott Executive Order GA-28, as amended, and future executive orders that may be issued by Governor Greg Abbott. Governor Abbott’s Order GA-28 includes limitations on capacity for events or occupancy limits that still apply. A copy of the Governor's order GA-28 can be found here and the amendment limiting mass gatherings to 10 people can be found here. This order also follows Governor Abbott’s Executive Order requiring all Texans to wear a face covering over nose and mouth in public spaces. View Judge Gravell's order here.

Southwest WilCo Regional Park Hours Return to 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The mosquito sample taken at a trap near the Southwest Williamson County Regional Park had a second consecutive negative test for West Nile Virus. Based on two negative tests, park hours will return to 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Juvenile Services Back to School Supply Drive

Williamson County Juvenile Services is holding a Back-to-School Supply Drive for local students in need. Supplies needed include backpacks, pens, pencils, spiral paper, loose leaf paper, subject folders with three clasps, markers, crayons, safety scissors, rulers with metric measurements, used computers that can connect to the internet, and gift cards. Donations will be accepted through the month of August at Williamson County Juvenile Services, located at 200 Wilco Way in Georgetown, or by calling Brooke Hall at 512-943-3223 to arrange a pick-up.
