The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (WCRAS) is at critical capacity and is offering free adoptions to help make space for the flood of animals that continue to come in after the 4th of July celebrations.

With over 170 dogs and 217 cats currently at the shelter, staff is stretched to the limit in their ability to properly care for these animals. Since Tuesday, 106 animals have been brought to the shelter, 90 of them as lost pets.

The WCRAS is offering free adoptions for medium-to-large adult dogs and adult cats through Sunday, July 10, to help alleviate the space crisis and make room for the new animals coming in each day.

“We are in desperate need of the community’s assistance right now. When we are asked if we are a no-kill shelter, the response is only with the community’s support,” said Animal Services Director Misty Valenta.

Appointments are not required but are recommended to reduce wait times. To see all of the medium-to-large adult dogs and adult cats that qualify for this special, go to wilcopets.org, then send an email to adoption@wilco.org to schedule an appointment for the shortest wait time.

For those not able to adopt at this time, fostering is available for medium-to-large adult dogs. Fostering provides a temporary home to a dog in need, which in turn makes room for another dog in need, creating much-needed space. The WCRAS can help provide supplies, if necessary and when available from our donations, and takes care of any medical needs a dog might experience while in foster care.
