Commissioner Cook read a tribute to Wade Ervin Sauls, Sr. during Commissioners Court on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022.

Wade Sauls also had an affinity for construction – what farmer or rancher doesn’t? It certainly is a necessary skill for his chosen work.  Maybe that’s where his son, Otto Sauls, got his start. Wade is reported as having built a low water crossing off Hairy Man Road around 1911, which at the time was the only way to get from Sam Bass Road to Brushy Creek Road.

Wade Ervin Sauls, Sr, prolific cotton farmer and family man leading the way for cotton farming to put Hutto and Taylor on the map for cotton-stuffed mattresses in support of America’s war efforts.
