Williamson County Commissioners Court Approves Proclamation March 20, 2018

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, in 1882, Dr. Robert Koch announced his discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacillus that causes tuberculosis (TB); and

WHEREAS, anyone can get TB, and although TB is preventable and curable, many people in the United States still suffer from this disease; and

WHEREAS, TB remains one of the world’s leading infectious killers, being responsible for the deaths of nearly 1.7 million people each year and representing the ninth leading cause of death globally; and

WHEREAS, our current efforts to find and treat latent TB infection (LTBI) and TB disease is not sufficient, and misdiagnosis of TB still exists and health care professionals often do not consider the possibility of TB; and

WHEREAS, the U.S. theme for World TB Day 2018 is “Wanted: Leaders for a TB Free United States. We can make history. End TB.”;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAMED, that the Williamson County Commissioners Court hereby declares March 24, 2018, as World TB Day in Williamson County to bring attention to the issue of TB to our residents and medical professionals.

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is celebrated April 8 to 14, 2018. This year’s theme is Expand the Circle: Reach All Victims, emphasizes the importance of inclusion in victim services. Williamson County will hold the 2018 Crime Victims’ Rights Week ceremony on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, to recognize and honor extraordinary individuals who demonstrate outstanding service to victims of crime and victim services. The ceremony will start at 10 a.m. in the Historic 26th District Courtroom located on the second floor of the Historic County Courthouse, 710 Main Street, Georgetown, Texas, 78626. The event is free and open to the public.

The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has issued a preliminary Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report, and where applicable, a Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM), reflecting proposed flood hazard determinations within Williamson County. The restudy includes the cities of Austin, Cedar Park, Coupland, Georgetown, Hutto, Leander, Round Rock and Taylor, as well as the unincorporated areas of Williamson County. The public is invited to review the information and appeal the proposed information over a 90-day period.
