Williamson County "Still Making History" as It Celebrates Its 175th Birthday

This March, Williamson County with celebrate its 175th birthday in historic fashion with events to honor the founding of the county on March 13, 1848. A proclamation to celebrate the county’s demisemiseptcentennial will be read at the Commissioners Court meeting on Tuesday, March 7, starting at 9:30 a.m.

The public is invited to join the party during the Williamson County 175th Birthday Celebration presented by the Greater Round Rock Community Foundation on March 10 and 11 at the historic county courthouse, 710 S. Main Street in Georgetown.

On Friday, March 10, Williamson County will kick off the celebration with a formal ceremony on the east side of the historic courthouse on Main Street starting at 2 p.m. After the candles are blown out, cake will be served in the courthouse on a first come, first served basis. The ceremony will be followed by entertainment on two stages from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. The party continues with a concert by 90s cover band Zoodust at 6:30 p.m. and a special laser light show which starts at approximately 7:30 p.m. From 2 to 5 p.m., tours of the historic courthouse will be available inside the courthouse. Main Street between 7th and 8th streets will be closed all day on Friday for this event.

The fun continues on Saturday, March 11, with a special Williamson County birthday party-themed Market Days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Williamson County will be adding family-friendly birthday party activities to the Downtown Georgetown Association’s event. Activities will include a bouncy house, train rides for children, face painting and a scavenger hunt.

On both days, the public is invited to help paint a new mural celebrating the county and the City of Georgetown’s 175th birthday. The mural will be painted on the side of the county’s tax office building located at 904 S. Main Street in Georgetown. The painting of the mural will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The artist, Yasaman Mehrsa, and volunteers will assist the public with painting the mural. A dedication ceremony will take place during the Georgetown Spring Arts Stroll on April 20 at 6 p.m.
