Champion Park to Get Makeover

Williamson County has some changes in store for Champion Park. The unique dinosaur-themed park was first opened to the public in September 2007. The dinosaur skeleton playscape was added in 2010. Williamson County will be adding a new playscape to the park in early 2020.

The new playscape will replace the splash pad that is located by the small, covered picnic area. The splash pad is original to the park and does not recirculate and treat water for continued use, so all water used is lost. Costs to upgrade and retrofit with a recirculation system are exorbitant. Instead, the county is using funds to remove the pad and replace it with a new playscape for children to enjoy.

Williamson County operates the large Quarry Splash Pad in its Southwest Williamson County Regional Park, 3005 CR 175, in Leander. That splash pad does recirculate water and treats the water for continued use. It is closed during the fall and winter and will reopen in May.

The County received bids for new playscape equipment and plan to complete installation in early 2020. The splash pad will be removed the week of February 10, and the new playscape will be installed in April.
