Animal Shelter

The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (WCRAS) is operating under an emergency plan.

First and foremost, The World Small Animal Veterinary Association and the World Health Organization states that there is no evidence that companion animals can be infected with or spread COVID-19.

The shelter buildings will be closed to the public through June 1; however, we have made contingency plans for a curbside pick-up process for adopters, fosters, and reunions.

WCRAS will change the hours open to the public to 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday through Saturday. We will conduct adoptions, fosters, and reunions by appointment only.

Adoption and Fostering
It is imperative that animals leave the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, view the pets online at http://wilcopets.org and then email [email protected]. You will then receive instructions on how to make an appointment to see the animal.

The shelter is lowering its animal population by 50%. This means adopters and fosters are desperately needed to aid 60 dogs (primarily medium and big) and 30 cats.

If you are interested in fostering, view the pets online at http://wilcopets.org and fill our a foster application. Then, email [email protected] for cat fostering or complete this form to find the right foster dog for you.

To assist with this these efforts, Wag Heaven in Georgetown, TX will provide select Zignature and Essence brand cat and dog food at no cost to individuals who take in a foster cat or dog from WCRAS during the COVID-19 response efforts. Please contact them at (512) 838-3980 for curbside service.

Limiting Intake
The shelter is currently limiting intake to emergency cases because of the potential impact on our ability to care for the animals at the shelter. This inability to care for animals can lead to euthanasia of healthy pets. If an animal needs to be rehomed, please refer to http://pets.wilco.org/Events for resources.

If you found a stray, instead of dropping off the animal at the shelter, please follow the resources on http://pets.wilco.org/Events including scanning the animal for a microchip, caring for the animal in your home, and posting on social media.

If you are looking for your lost pet, please visit http://pets.wilco.org/Events for resources.

More Ways to Help
WCRAS will still accept donations at the Services Building (the single-story, brown building with an entrance off the Inner Loop). Please leave all donations in front of the shelter. Please place linens in plastic bags. We currently need unopened bags of dog food and cat food, canned food, new toys in store packaging, and crates. Monetary donations can be given by clicking the donate button on our website http://wilcopets.org. You can also order from our emergency Amazon Wish List.

Additionally, even through this crisis, the shelter is still vying for a chance to compete for $500K in the Innovation Showdown. Community members are encouraged to vote for the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter and its partner, Hyperhound, at http://petcofoundation.org/hyperhound.

The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter will do everything it can to help the animals, however, the need for the community’s help is more urgent than ever. Working together, the community can support and save the shelter animals through this desperate and life-threatening situation. Thank you.
