WCRAS Takes in 44 Animals Due to Cruelty Case

Last night, the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter took in 44 animals from a cruelty case – 28 chickens & roosters, 9 dogs, 6 ducks and a goose. The shelter was already at critical capacity levels, and this cruelty seizure strains their resources to the breaking point, putting capacity for care at great risk.

There are currently 460 animals at the shelter. To put this in perspective, these animals could fill every seat at the Oasis on Lake Travis and still have a wait. Having this many animals in the shelter at once greatly affects the capacity for care, and the shelter is begging the community to come to its aid once again. There are many ways to help.

First, fostering. Help make space by fostering a medium-to-large adult dog. This helps open a kennel for one of the dogs brought in last night and reduces the number of animals needing care in the shelter. The shelter will work to find a match for your home; will share supplies from donations, when available; and will take care of any medical issues that might arise.

Second, adopting. While the animals from the seizure may not be placed at this time, there are plenty of others that can be. All adoptable animals can be previewed at www.wilcopets.org. The shelter is open from noon to 6 p.m. seven days a week and is located at 1855 SE Inner Loop in Georgetown, Texas.

Third, donate. Items in need include newspapers, dog kibble, chicken feed and small metal bowls. Go to https://tinyurl.com/WCRAS-Emergency-Response for a list of the items most in need to help the shelter through this crisis.

Fourth, spread the word. Tell your friends and family about the need. Many hands make light work.

The shelter needs the community’s help to make it through this. Through your assistance with adoptions, fosters and donations, the shelter’s life-saving mission can continue.
