Grand Opening of the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter Expansion March 14

The public is invited to the grand opening of the expansion of the Williamson County Regional Animal Center (WCRAS) on Thursday, March 14, 2019. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held for the new WCRAS Adoption Center at 11 a.m. Attendees are invited to take part in a Kitten Shower by donating items for the shelter’s many cats and kittens!

Two special shelter success stories will be attendance. K9 Harley with the Round Rock Police Department and K9 Bolo with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office both were at WCRAS when their respective departments identified them as being good candidates for K9 duty! Hutto Police K9s Raisin and Rik also will attend.

The 16,970 square-foot, two-story expansion area features a new adoption center, a public lobby, administration offices, new canine and feline adoption kennels, a new entrance off Wilco Way and parking area for the adoption center, and an exercise yard for dogs. Renovations to the existing facility include a new surgery area and surgical prep rooms, repairs to the A/C and plumbing in 35 existing canine kennels, a feline isolation area, and a laundry area with cleanup station. The expansion project has doubled the capacity for cats and added 80 dog kennels. The expansion project was designed by Jackson & Ryan Architects with construction by Vaughn Construction for a guaranteed maximum price of $9,499,295.

The ribbon cutting ceremony is at 11 a.m. in the Adoption Center parking lot located on Wilco Way, with the doors opening for adoptions at noon! In honor of the grand opening, the WCRAS also will be offering a great adoption special with all adult dogs and cats available for a price you get to name! Items suggested for donation to the kitten shower include: Royal Canin Mother and Babycat soft food and kibble, digital kitchen scales, flannel receiving blankets, kitten bottles, unflavored Pedialyte, top loading plastic carriers, free and clear baby wipes, and turkey or chicken Gerber baby food (no additional veggies or spices.)

WCRAS first opened on March 14, 2007. In the 12 years that it has operated, it has saved more than 48,500 lives.
