Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that is spreading from person to person in parts of the United States. The risk of infection with COVID-19 is higher for people who are close contacts of someone known to have COVID-19, for example healthcare workers, or household members. Other people at higher risk for infection are those who live in or have recently been in an area with an ongoing spread of COVID-19.

Williamson County & Cities Health District is closely monitoring the rapidly evolving situation in coordination with the Texas Department of State Health Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and local and regional public health and healthcare agencies.

If you or someone you know is feeling overwhelmed by the COVID-19 pandemic, help is available. Call the toll-free Texas Health and Human Services COVID-19 Mental Health Support Line at 833-986-1919 to speak with a mental health professional 24/7.

Williamson County Commissioners Terminate Local Disaster Declaration and Approve Public Reopening Plan

On Tuesday, May 19, the Williamson County Commissioners Court terminated the County’s local disaster declaration which went into effect March 14, 2020.

“It is time for Williamson County to stand again and to grow in a way that leads our nation,” said County Judge Bill Gravell.

The Commissioners Court also approved the plan for ramping up in-person access to Williamson County offices beginning June 1. For specifics on county offices and their hours and procedures, click here.

“Over the last two months and in the midst of the pandemic, Williamson County continued to provide services to the citizens of our county.  Many of those services became virtual, but I am pleased that we will be opening up to more in-person access again,” said Commissioner Cynthia Long, who worked on the plan.

The plan complies with all COVID-19 orders issued by the Governor of the State of Texas, as well as social distancing and other sound preventative practices recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The plan may be subject to change daily, depending on the COVID-19 response and how that continues to evolve over time.

The Williamson County District Courts, County Courts at Law, and Justice of the Peace courts are in the process of developing an Operating Plan as directed by the Texas Supreme Court. Pursuant to the direction of the Texas Supreme Court there will be no in-person hearings other than essential hearings that cannot be conducted remotely because doing so is not possible or practicable until the Operating Plan is approved by the Third Administrative Regional Judge and forwarded to the Office of Court Administration. Upon approval of the plan, the public will be notified.

County buildings will reopen by following procedures to ensure the safety of the public and county employees. County buildings will have signage stating that face-coverings are recommended, but not required, to be worn inside county buildings; however, cloth face-coverings will be mandatory when entering a courtroom based upon directives from the Office of Court Administration.

Temperature checks may be required by elected officials for members of the public entering the Williamson County Justice Center, facilities where essential employees are working, and visiting the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter.
