Williamson County continues to make strides to fulfill the demand for COVID-19 vaccines. While there is a limited supply of doses, there also is a dire need to help people with appointments to fill out their online registration paperwork to be ready for their appointment.
To streamline the vaccine registration process and reduce any barriers that could prevent a person from properly registering to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, the County has created a Vaccine Registration Technical Assistance sites (VRTA) at the Sun City Ballroom, 2 Texas Drive in Georgetown. The County aims to expand this program and launch more sites in the coming days. At a VRTA location, which will be predominantly run by trained volunteers, a resident can get help filling out their registration paperwork once they have received a vaccination appointment from Family Hospital Systems (FHS). "These sites are for those that need assistance with technology to get all their documents uploaded and be fully registered prior to receiving the COVID-19 vaccine,” said Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell.
There are 81,282 people currently living in Williamson County who are 65 and older and are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
“We are working rapidly to meet the needs of our community,” added Gravell. “We can open all of the mega sites that we want in Williamson County, but until we get a significant amount of vaccines, it is still going to be a fairly slow process.”
The County’s vaccine state-approved hub is FHS. So far, FHS has administered 15,000 doses to individuals who had pre-registered to be on the waitlist. Monday, February 1, and Tuesday, February 2, FHS will continue vaccinating people by appointment only at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex drive-thru site. On Wednesday, February 3, vaccinations by appointment will be administered at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex.
On Tuesday, January 26, the Commissioners Court approved a contract with Curative Inc. to set up additional vaccination sites, once they are named a hub provider by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
