Williamson County Commissioners Court Approves Redistricting Map

The Williamson County Commissioners Court approved a new redistricting map for Justices of the Peace, Constables and Commissioners precincts. Counties are required to review the new census data to ensure the population is evenly distributed every ten years. The Williamson County Commissioners Court also approved changes to boundary lines of county election or voter precincts. Changes will take effect for elections on Jan. 1, 2022. Williamson County’s contractor Denucci Constructors is beginning work on the Great Oaks Drive Bridge project. For safety, the Brushy Creek Regional Trail near the project area will be closed starting as early as Sunday, Nov. 14, for approximately nine months. To view the closure map, click here. Williamson County Welcomes Samsung to Taylor, Texas

On Nov. 23, it was announced that Samsung Electronics, Co., Ltd. (“Samsung”) will build its most advanced semiconductor manufacturing plant in the United States in Taylor, Texas. The location of the $17 billion investment was announced at a press conference held by Governor Greg Abbott at the Governor’s Mansion. Officials from the City of Taylor, Taylor Independent School District and Williamson County have worked to bring the semiconductor manufacturer to Taylor since January 2021. On Sept. 8, in a joint meeting with the City of Taylor, the Williamson County Commissioners Court approved a resolution, a Chapter 381 performance-based agreement and a development agreement as an incentive package for Samsung Austin Semiconductor, LLC, to build its newest semiconductor plant in Taylor, Texas. Since January, Williamson County has been in consideration as the possible location of Samsung’s future expansion in the United States, a $17 billion investment. Commissioners Court Approves Budget and Sets Tax Rate

The Williamson County Commissioners Court unanimously approved the total county budget of $453,177,654.23. The total county budget is comprised of the General Fund, Road and Bridge Fund and Debt Service Fund. The Commissioners Court also adopted a total tax rate for tax year 2021 of $0.440846. That rate is less than the county’s current total tax rate of $0.458719. ”With this tax rate and property tax exemptions, the average county homestead tax bill will decrease by $14,” said Larry Gaddes, Williamson County Tax Assessor/Collector.

Commissioners Court Approves Increase in Homestead Property Tax Exemptions

May 25, 2021, the Williamson County Commissioners Court voted to increase property tax exemptions, providing tax relief to all residential homesteads in the county.  Property tax exemptions for persons 65 and older increased from $30,000 to $90,000. Property tax exemption for disabled persons increased from $20,000 to $75,000. In addition, the Commissioners Court added a homestead property tax exemption for all homeowners of 1.5% of their homestead’s assessed value or $5,000, whichever is greater. In order to qualify for the Homestead Exemption, the property owner must have owned and occupied the property as of January 1 of the tax year. Apply at www.wcad.org.
