Nov. 23, 2021, it was announced that Samsung Electronics, Co., Ltd. (“Samsung”) will build its most advanced semiconductor manufacturing plant in the United States in Taylor, Texas. The location of the $17 billion investment was announced at a press conference held by Governor Greg Abbott at the Governor’s Mansion. Officials from the City of Taylor, Taylor Independent School District and Williamson County have worked to bring the semiconductor manufacturer to Taylor since January 2021. County Offices Closed for Thanksgiving Nov. 25 and 26

Williamson County offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 25, and Friday, Nov. 26, for the Thanksgiving holiday.  County offices will resume operations on Monday, Nov. 29, 2021.  The Commissioners Court meeting that is usually held on Tuesdays will not be held on Nov. 30.  The next Commissioners Court meeting following the holiday will be Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021.

Join the Lighting of the Square Nov. 26

Celebrate the holiday season at the annual Lighting of the Square event on the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 26.  The event will be held on the east steps of the historic Williamson County Courthouse, 710 S. Main St. The festivities include entertainment from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. After the lighting, Williamson County Brown Santa will offer the option for visitors to take photos with Santa inside the courthouse from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for a donation of an unwrapped toy, wrapping paper or a monetary donation. Enter the courthouse on the south side on Eighth Street.

Emergency Communications to have Mental Health Assistance  Available to Callers 24/7

Callers needing emergency assistance in Williamson County are now being offered a new option. Through a partnership between Emergency Services, the Sheriff’s Office and Bluebonnet Trails Community Services (BTCS), a qualified mental health provider on the Emergency Communications floor is available to assist with 911 callers experiencing mental health emergencies. The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the year. This service is not a replacement for the crisis hotline. Anyone having a mental health crisis should still call Bluebonnet Trails directly at 1-800-841-1255.

WCCHD Transitions to CDC Data Tracker for Community Transmission Phases

Effective Nov. 15, Williamson County and Cities Health District (WCCHD) will be using the CDC Data Tracker for determining Gating Phases in Williamson County.  The Phases are used to inform the public of the COVID-19 community transmission risk. The Data Tracker site (https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#county-view) provides an integrated, standardized view of key data for monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic in Williamson and the surrounding counties, and across the United States. According to the CDC Data Tracker, Williamson County is in the Orange or Substantial phase.
