Williamson County currently has openings for appointments to the Williamson County Historical Commission (WCHC).  The WCHC is designated to coordinate and supervise historic preservation under the direction of the Williamson County Commissioners Court. Applications are being accepted for Williamson County residents interested in serving on the Appraisal Review Board (ARB). The ARB hears appeals from property owners and determines protests for ad valorem tax purposes. To be eligible for appointment, an applicant must have been a Williamson county resident for two (2) years, and never have been employed by, or been an officer or director of the WCAD, along with other eligibility restrictions provided in Texas Property Tax Code Section 6.412.

Commissioners Court Approves County Budget and Sets Tax Rate

On August 30, 2002, the Williamson County Commissioners Court unanimously approved the fiscal year 2022-2023 county budget and set the county tax rate. The total county tax rate for tax year 2022 is $0.375608 and is six and a half cents less than the county’s current total tax rate. This rate will decrease property taxes on the average homestead residence by approximately $100 next year. The total county budget is comprised of the General Fund, Road and Bridge Fund and Debt Service Fund. The total county budget for October 2022 through September 2023 is $505,381,808.

Tax Office Adopts New Hours Starting August 15

The Williamson County Tax Assessor/Collector’s offices will be instituting new hours of operation for all four locations. Effective August 15, 2022, all county tax office lobbies will be closed to the public on Wednesdays. The Tax Assessor/Collector’s website offers a wealth of information including how to renew vehicle registration online or how to make an appointment at a tax office. District Clerk Warns of Jury Scam

The Williamson County District Clerk’s Office wants to warn residents in Williamson and surrounding counties about a phone scam that was reported to that office.  People have been receiving calls from someone who claims to be a county official or law enforcement officer telling the victim that he or she has failed to appear for jury duty and is threatening arrest by failure to appear.
