A city, county and state can file a disaster declaration. A disaster declaration could allow for people with property damage to get some financial assistance, such as low interest loans, for those who are uninsured or underinsured. To be eligible, the county must meet a minimum threshold for damage, and the state also must meet a minimum threshold for damage.

The threshold is $2.7 million of individual assistance, business losses/impacts and public assistance in the county. The state must also meet a threshold. The sum total of state costs and local jurisdictions (including ISD’s and other eligible groups) make up the “state threshold”. The governor can request that the President declare a disaster in order for federal assistance, such as low interest loans, to become available. Unfortunately there are no dollars to assist with tree and limb removal from a private property from the county, state or federal government.
