Williamson County Commissioners Court voted in favor of the Proclamation that preceded the Ismaili Games held in Williamson County
WHEREAS, the Aga Khan Council for the United States, in conjunction with the Aga Khan Youth and Sports Board will be hosting the 2019 United States Ismaili Games in Williamson County from November 28th to December 1st, 2019; and
WHEREAS, the Ismaili games will bring together members of the Ismaili community of all generations to showcase their athletic excellence, comradery, and to promote unity and fair play across a variety of sports, including basketball, badminton, chess, cricket, flag football, golf, soccer, softball, squash, swimming, tennis, table tennis, throwball, track and field, ultimate frisbee and volleyball; and
WHEREAS, Ismaili athletes from across the United States will join athletes from Williamson County and Central Texas, all of whom take great pride in representing their respective home regions, and through their combined exposure to the leadership and voluntary activities during the United States Ismaili Games will return and continue to engage in their communities across the United States in which they live, work and contribute; and
WHEREAS, during their time in Williamson County, many families, friends and fans of the athletes will attend the Ismaili Jamatkhana in Cedar Park established by His Highness the Aga Khan, the 49th hereditary Imam (spiritual leader) of the Shia Ismaili Muslims; and
WHEREAS, the Ismaili community of Williamson County, through the guidance of His Highness the Aga Khan, continue to strive to embody the tenants of the Shia faith by valuing pluralism, putting their faith into action through service, and working to improve the quality of life for all that call Williamson County home;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Williamson County Commissioners Court welcomes these athletes from across the United States to our county and does hereby proclaim the day of November 26, 2019 to be United States Ismaili Games “Together We Win” Day.
