Since hiring its first officer in 1979, through support from the Williamson County Commissioners Court, the Williamson County Juvenile Board, and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department; Juvenile Services has grown into a premier organization -- providing progressive, innovative programming while collaborating with other organizations that share similar service philosophies.

TBRI® Ambassador Organization

Williamson County Juvenile Services is proud to be a TBRI® Ambassador Organization. TBRI®, or Trust-based Relational Intervention, is an attachment based, trauma-informed intervention designed to meet the complex needs of children and families who have experienced adversity, early harm, toxic stress, or trauma. TBRI® Ambassador Organizations partner with TCU’s Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development (KPICD) in our mission of bringing hope and healing to vulnerable children worldwide. These organizations have a relationship rooted in mutual trust and connection with the KPICD, and actively cultivate a TBRI® culture within their organization, from top leadership to the clients they serve. TBRI® Ambassador organizations have been thoroughly vetted throughout their TBRI® implementation process and are committed to partnering with KPICD through influencing systems of care and practice.

Grievances and Complaints Against the Department

Williamson County Juvenile Services (WCJS) shall provide public information for the procedures involved in submitting a complaint or grievance. Juvenile Services shall post signage, provided by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD), in the public spaces of offices and facilities that lists the contact information for persons responsible for receiving, and reviewing complaints and grievances in each department. In addition, WCJS shall post the grievance procedure on a web site to which the public has access. WCJS is committed to solving complaints and grievances at the lowest possible level in order to serve our clients better. WCJS asks that those persons with a compliant or grievance provide the opportunity to resolve grievances informally before resorting to a formal written grievance. Parties with grievances involving alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment are not required to use the informal grievance process.

If you have tried to resolve any grievance informally, and are not satisfied with the result of those efforts, please select the link below and you will be directed to a grievance form which can be filled out online and then printed, or downloaded and filled in by hand. Please complete the form, print it, and turn it into any staff member for processing. You should receive a reply within 10 calendar days.

START Program

The START Program is a half day educational program offered at no-charge and open to all members of the community, juvenile offenders, parents, and at-risk kids.

START is facilitated by the Williamson County Juvenile Services Prevention Specialist Tanielu (Dan) Tuiasosopo. Attendees are provided with an overview of the Williamson County Juvenile Justice Center, the Texas Juvenile Justice System, and the Williamson County residential programs.

Although many of the participants come as a result of referrals due to the youth's involvement with the police, juvenile detention, or chronic school behavior issues, the START program is also offered for families and youth stakeholders working to prevent youth from entering the juvenile justice system.

One of the most poignant components of the START class is when current residents are brought in to answer questions about what daily life is like as a resident. Youth are encouraged to ask the residents questions and are given honest answers in return. This peer-to-peer interaction is often noted by the youth who attend the program as the most impactful portion of the class. A tour of the Juvenile Justice Center is offered at the end of each class and includes a walk-through of a residential dorm, the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP), and the court room.

Participants are asked to complete an evaluation at the conclusion of the class. Feedback helps to improve the program, and is consistently positive. The following are examples of the type of feedback received:

"If I would have come to this class before I committed my offense I wouldn't have done what I did. I feel like everyone should go to this class or have this class placed in schools..."

"I really enjoyed talking to the cadets and their honesty. They gave me an idea of what will happen if my behavior doesn't change."

Juvenile Services Child Nutrition

Williamson County Juvenile Services is dedicated to the education of the youth in our communities. Knowing that good nutrition and learning go hand-in-hand, we proudly participate in the National School Lunch Program. Our participation in this program ensures the highest quality nutrition for the school age youth that participate in our programs. We provide both lunch and breakfast meals to those in need.
