A Word From Our Board President . . . As the District Attorney of Williamson County, I believe that my office should aggressively prosecute criminals that threaten or harm our children. Children are especially vulnerable and deserve special protection. One of the ways the District Attorney can help law enforcement pursue criminals that abuse children is to serve as President of the Board of Directors for the Children’s Advocacy Center. The Center’s specially trained staff interview children who have reported abuse. Interviews are conducted in a comfortable, child-friendly setting and videotaped to minimize repetitive interviews. This means that the children are less frightened by the investigative process and don’t have to repeat their statement to police, prosecutors, and social workers.. As Board President, my mission is to provide a safe place for children to report abuse. We have a 17 member Board of Directors that oversees the budget and policies of the Center. We are very active in soliciting support from the county and cities in Williamson County. In addition, we pursue grants and hold fundraisers each year. Our annual fundraisers include showing a movie in January at the City Lights Theatres in Georgetown and holding a golf tournament in May at Avery Ranch Golf Club. In addition, we successfully held a Capital Campaign for a new facility to meet the growing demands of Williamson County. Through generous donations, both monetary and in-kind, a new 7500 sq ft "home" was opened in October, 2007. I hope that you will take the time to consider supporting the Children’s Advocacy Center. You can help us by donating money or your time. Together, we can continue to keep the Center open and provide children with a safe place to report abuse. |
