WILLIAMSON COUNTY EMS HONOR GUARD IN FINAL APPROVAL STAGE

FOR PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURAL PARADE

November 9, 2004 (Williamson County, TX) – The Williamson County EMS Honor Guard will be marching in the Veterans Day Parade in Austin on Nov. 11, starting at 9 a.m.  The parade route goes north on Congress Avenue and ends at the south steps of the Texas State Capitol.  However, while the group marches to celebrate our veterans, they also will be practicing for a much bigger event.  The group is in the final approval process for participating in the 2005 Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington D.C.  Since its inception in May of 2003, the group has performed at several July 4th parades, Memorials Day celebrations and funerals, but this upcoming event is a chance that only comes around once every four years.

Williamson County EMS Honor Guard is one of 70 groups that have reached part 2 of the 3-part approval process for participating in the inaugural parade and is the only group representing emergency services from Texas.  Groups selected to participate will be notified by mid-December.  The last inauguration approved 300 applications resulting in 11,000 people from 45 states marching in the parade.

The EMS Honor Guard is funded by private donations.  In preparation for this and other events, the Honor Guard is raising funds for new uniforms, specifically warmer coats, and the cost of attending the inauguration.  Donations for the Honor Guard are tax deductible and can be sent to Williamson County EMS, 303 MLK, Georgetown, TX 78626.  Checks should be made out to Williamson County EMS Public Education.
