HAIRY MAN ROAD OPENS
MONDAY
Oct. 29, 2004 (Round Rock, TX) – County Road 174 (Hairy Man Road) will reopen at 6
a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1. The road has been closed for a $100 million
project by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) on the Brushy Creek
Regional Wastewater System that allows closure of two treatment plants and Onion
Branch lift station.
"LCRA appreciates the cooperation of
Williamson
County in the completion of
this important project," said Jim Clarno, LCRA's manager of utility
development.
“We are glad LCRA’s project is completed and that the road is reopened. It
is an important link for the citizens of Williamson
County between the Brushy
Creek area and the Round Rock area,” said Williamson County Commissioner Lisa
Birkman.
The project included installing a
line that is the last part of a regional wastewater collection system that
consists of a 17-mile wastewater interceptor – a large pipeline – extending from
Cedar
Park to the Brushy Creek
Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant adjacent to Highway 79 just east of Dell
Diamond. One of LCRA’s primary goals with the project is to improve water
quality in Brushy Creek and protect the Edwards Aquifer. Instead of using
lift stations that are subject to failures and overflows that can cause
pollution problems, wastewater will flow by force of gravity to the Brushy Creek
plant. The collection system serves portions of Round Rock, Cedar
Park, Austin and the Brushy
Creek and Fern Bluff municipal utility districts.
