NEW CHAMPION PARK
COMING TO WILLIAMSON
COUNTY
October 20, 2004 (Georgetown, TX) – Williamson County commissioners authorized the Auditor’s Office
to receive requests for qualifications for landscape architectural services for
a new Williamson
County park. The park
is approximately 35 acres and is located along the Brushy Creek Regional Trail
between Round Rock and Cedar
Park in Precinct 1.
An historic cemetery is located on the tract called Champion
Cemetery after the Champion
family. Williamson County Precinct 1 Commissioner Lisa Birkman has
proposed calling the new park Champion
Park after the historic
cemetery.
Phase One of the park is anticipated to include a pavilion, fishing area and
parking area with a budget of approximately $1.2 million. This park is
being created with funds from a $25 million park bond passed by Williamson
County voters in
2000. Requests for qualifications are due by November 9. The
planning and construction of the park is projected to take approximately 12
months.
