BRUSHY CREEK REGIONAL TRAIL AWARDED HALF-MILLION DOLLAR GRANT

August 31, 2004 (Williamson County, TX) – Texas Parks and Wildlife awarded a $517,213 grant for the Brushy Creek Regional Trail Phase II to Williamson County Parks and Recreation.  The grant will pay for part of an additional 2.5 miles of trail from Parmer Lane to Twin Lakes Park in Cedar Park on Highway 183.  Fishing areas, an aquatic garden, benches, a creek crossing and signage are planned for this section of trail.

The Brushy Creek Regional Trail is planned to be an 8-mile system connecting Hwy. 183 to I.H. 35.  Brushy Creek Regional Trail Phase I is approximately three miles in length stretching from the Creekside Trail Head at the intersection of Brushy Creek Road and Great Oaks Drive west to the new City of Cedar Park Brushy Creek Lake Park.  Emergency call boxes are placed every half mile along the trail.  Markers are placed at each 1/10th of a mile.  Use of the trail is free, and it is open to the public from sunrise to sunset.  The future vision for the trail is to eventually traverse the county covering approximately 30 miles connecting the Highland Lakes to Milam County.  The trail was designed by Hall-Bargainer,Inc., a Round Rock based landscape architecture firm.
