DINOSAURS INVADE GEORGETOWN PUBLIC HEALTH CLINIC

August 17, 2004 (Georgetown, TX) – While other students spent their summer by the pool, Caitlin Hamby spent her summer with her paints.  The 16-year-old Round Rock High School student spent most of her summer painting a dinosaur mural on the walls of the Georgetown Public Health Clinic’s waiting room.

Hamby designed four plant eating dinosaurs for the mural.  The young artist took care to make the dinosaurs very cute and friendly so children would not be scared.

“The colors are bright, and it just feels fun in the waiting area,” states Marge Tripp, community health promotion division director with the Williamson County and Cities Health District.

“Children often spend long periods of time waiting to receive immunizations,” continues Tripp.  “Research tells us that this bright, fun atmosphere will help alleviate some anxiety.  If children are having fun and are at ease, the adults will be, too.  The result is a more positive waiting experience for clients.”

A dinosaur mirror, activity boards and children’s books were also added.  The Georgetown Public Health Clinic is located at 100 West 3rd Street.  For more information on their services, visit their web-site at www.publichealthwilliamson.org.
