Indigent Defense

In 2001, the 77th Legislature modified the State’s statutes and codes to reform indigent defense practices through a group of amendments known as “The Fair Defense Act.” The Fair Defense Act (FDA) of 2001 created uniform State standards and procedures for the appointment of attorneys. The procedures required by the FDA must be consistent in all courts of the same jurisdiction within any particular county.
