The Professional Standards Unit was created to provide programs for deputy sheriffs and corrections officers to assure optimum performance, effectiveness, and departmental productivity as Williamson County Officers. Additionally, the unit has the responsibility of developing hiring and promotional criteria to ensure new employees the highest probability of success. The unit is also charged with the responsibility of developing a comprehensive training program that perpetuates maximum effectiveness and efficiency. These programs include, but not limited to, addressing the physical, intellectual, emotional, legal and ethical demands imposed upon Sheriff's Office personnel.

Training today’s professional law enforcement officer has often been cited as the most important responsibility of any law enforcement agency. With this in mind, the Training Division is committed to providing the most comprehensive and advanced Law Enforcement curriculum available. The philosophy of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office accentuates all aspects of training to produce well trained, professional Law Enforcement officers to better serve our community. Proper training provides personnel with the most important tools of their career, providing the ability to act decisively and correctly in a wide spectrum of situations.

  • The Training Division's goal is to provide proactive job specific training that will:
  • Improve job performance and proficiency through effective and efficient training
  • Meet or exceed all of TCLEOSE training standards and requirements
  • Improve the training quality by training with organizational goals in mind
  • Insure the department’s philosophy and mandates are clearly understood

The function of the Training Division is to provide and coordinate the training for all personnel. This training includes, but is not limited to:

  • Recruit Training
  • In-Service training
  • Firearms training
  • Specialized training
  • Provide training to outside agencies

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office Training division is comprised of experienced, professional TCLEOSE certified instructors. The Training Division conducts training for all employees of the Williamson County Sheriff's Office and outside agencies.

The vast majority of attendees to Sheriff’s office sponsored training programs have been respectful and do not compromise the training environment we wish to provide; however the actions of a few makes the posting of these rules necessary to provide a professional and enjoyable learning environment conducive to efficient training.

1.     All students will be in class and seated promptly at the time the class is scheduled to begin.

2.     Students will return promptly from breaks.

3.     Reading materials, not directly associated with the class topic, are prohibited.

4.     Pagers and/or cellular phones will be placed on silent alert prior to class.

5.     Students will remain seated until instructed otherwise by the instructor.

6.     Students will sit with all four legs of the chair firmly on the floor.

7.     Students will not sit on furnishings other than chairs.

8.     Students will wear a uniform or business casual attire for all classes unless the course flyer indicates special clothing is required, such as for defensive tactics or other physical training courses.

w  “Business casual” means; collared shirts in solid colors or a conservative pattern, slacks or trousers for men and women, appropriate length skirts or dresses for women, business or uniform style footwear.

w  No t-shirts, sweatshirts, jeans of any type or color, sandals, flip flops, or sneakers will be allowed in regular classes.

9.     Students will not place their feet on the furniture or walls.

10.  Students will follow any direction given by the course instructor or member of the training staff while utilizing any of the training facilities.

11.  Eating, drinking and the use of tobacco products are prohibited in the classroom.
