The Williamson County Auditor’s Office received the Texas Comptroller’s “Gold” Leadership Circle Award for their success in implementing financial transparency online. The Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle is highlighting local governments that have opened their books to the public in a clear and user-friendly format.

The Williamson County Commissioners Court awarded the contract for the county’s public safety technology project to SunGard Public Sector headquartered in Lake Mary, Florida. The contract includes a computer aided dispatch system, records management system for law enforcement and fire, software for mobile computer terminals and automatic vehicle location.

Williamson County offices will be closed on Friday, April 2, 2010, in observance of the Good Friday holiday. All county offices will resume regular hours on Monday, April 5, 2010.

A Republican run-off election will be held April 13 for Justice, Supreme Court Place 3; Member, State Board of Education District 10; and State Representative District 52. Early voting runs April 5 through April 9.

Williamson County and the City of Cedar Park are hosting Partners Across Texas Showcase for Veterans and Military Families on Saturday, April 3, 2010, 2 to 4 p.m. at the Cedar Park Event Center, 2100 Avenue of the Stars, Cedar Park. TexVet and the Partners Across Texas will be at the showcase to connect with veterans and their families. The Partners will have important information on programs, support, education and assistance for veterans and their families.

Waste Management and Williamson County are partnering with the City of Cedar Park to host the “Keen on Clean” Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on March 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Austin Community College, 1555 Cypress Creek Road in Cedar Park. Asphalt paving will be taking place on the Williams Drive Construction Project beginning Sunday, March 21 through Friday, March 26 (weather permitting). In order to minimize motorist inconvenience and the effects to traffic, paving will be taking place between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Williamson County Emergency Medical Services in conjunction with the Texans In Motions-Kids In Safety Seats Project will be sponsoring a car seat safety event for area residents on Thursday, March 25.

The County Health Rankings—the first set of reports to rank the overall health of every county in all 50 states—were released today by the University of Wisconsin’s Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation at a briefing in Washington, D.C. Williamson County ranked first among Texas Counties in the health outcomes category and fifth overall in health factors.

On the first day of early voting on February 16, 1,583 voters cast their ballots for the March 2, 2010 Primary Election. A total of 1,045 voted in person in the Republican primary and 283 voted by mail; and a total of 246 voted in person in the Democratic primary and 9 voted by mail. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Victim Assistance Unit is gearing up for its second annual garage sale fundraiser. The garage sale benefits crime victims in Williamson County. The garage sale will take place on March 27, 2010 at 508 South Rock Street in Georgetown, TX.

Williamson County Precinct 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey gave oral comments to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) panel on Ambient Air Quality Standards for Ground Level Ozone on Tuesday, February 2, in the Moody Ballroom of the Hilton Houston Hobby Airport hotel. Commissioner Covey requested a gradual implementation of any reduction in the ozone standard in order for more timely and accurate scientific data to be evaluated and asked the agency to recognize the role of transport ozone in calculations and implementation of ozone standards.

A ribbon cutting will be held celebrating the improvements on CR 175, Phase 2A on Friday, February 12, at 1:30 p.m. Parking for the ribbon cutting will be at the Williamson County Southwest Regional Park, and the ceremony will take place north of the park entrance.

Williamson County has reorganized several departments this fiscal year in an effort to create a management structure that more closely mirrors standard business practices. Cost centers under the Commissioners Court have been organized into a structure reporting to five senior directors, reducing the number of positions that directly report to the Court. The Williamson County Courthouse in Georgetown received the award for the Best Restoration category for the 2008 Texas Downtown Association (TDA) Presidents Awards Program. Since 1998, the Awards Program has recognized more than 100 projects, events and people that make a difference in Texas downtowns.

Grimes between Old Settlers Boulevard and approximately 1,000 feet north of University Boulevard. The state, county, city of Round Rock and a private developer had been working together to secure funding for the project.

The Commissioners Court approved a "Declaration of Disaster" due to the widespread and severe damage resulting from drought conditions. This declaration will remain in effect until terminated by order of the Commissioners Court.
