The S.O.S. Diversion Program consists of three phases:

Phase I – S.T.A.R.T. Class: The juvenile and parent(s) or guardian(s) are scheduled to attend a group class (S.T.A.R.T. Class) which provides an overview of the juvenile justice system in Texas, provides a forum for the students and parents to ask questions. The S.T.A.R.T. class is held on a designated Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Phase II – Intake Meeting: The juvenile and parent(s) meet with the S.O.S. Diversion Program Coordinator to discuss and establish expectations and guidelines for successful completion of the program.

Phase III: The juvenile provides follow up documentation that all expectations and guidelines agreed upon in Phase II have been completed.

All youth participating in the S.O.S. Diversion Program will be expected to perform at least 12 hours of community service work. More hours may be assigned by the Program Coordinator if deemed appropriate. 

All youth will be assessed a $20.00 administrative fee for the program. No staff persons receive any fees collected! All money is channeled directly back into services for youth that we serve. Additional conditions may include:

-  Payment of financial restitution to the victim if applicable.
-  Additional classes or programs that the parent(s) and S.O.S. Program Coordinator believe are appropriate and helpful.
-  Writing a two page essay on a relevant topic to the alleged offense.
-  Referral to other community based program for additional support or guidance.
-  Any other assignment which is reasonably related to the alleged offense.
