Precinct One, Commissioner Lisa Birkman

Lisa is a sixth generation Texan, born on the Army base at Ft. Hood in 1960. Her family lived in the United States and around the world with her father, a now retired U.S. Army Colonel.  Her ancestors first came to Texas from Tennessee in a covered wagon in 1851, when they established the town of Bagdad, which is near modern-day Leander. She's never forgotten her family’s home in Williamson County, where they have owned their farm for over 150 years. Many of her family members still live in Williamson County.
After graduation from Georgetown High School in 1978, Lisa attended Texas A&M University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1982. Next, she taught public school for over 13 years in mainly Round Rock and Austin ISD. Her teaching tenure included 9 years in Austin teaching pre-kindergarten in the state and federally funded program for underprivileged and/or non-English speaking four year olds.

While our dry weather is bad for lawns, it has been good for road construction!  Quite a bit of work has been completed on the O’Connor Drive Extension project, including completing construction of all bridge columns for the bridge at Lake Creek.  We also have placed formwork for bridge bent caps on the completed columns as well as poured concrete for bridge abutments, and we have installed box culverts and pipe for cross drainage.  Coming up, we will continue to form and pour concrete at the bridge abutments and work on excavation and embankment for the roadway.

Work began June 6 on improvements to the Great Oaks intersection north of RR 620.  Currently, we have placed hot mix asphalt for the additional left turn lane, and formed and poured curb and gutter at Great Oaks for the new left turn lane.  The work on Great Oaks is scheduled to be completed the week of July 6.  Work will begin on the O’Connor roadway improvements north of RR 620 on July 9.
