Williamson County Counterfeit Vehicle Inspection Program

On September 28, 2010, Williamson County Commissioner's Court approved a pilot program called the Counterfeit Vehicle Inspection Program. This program will identify vehicles that have counterfeit, fictitious, fraudulently issued, or expired state inspection certificates. This pilot program aims to ensure that vehicles in Williamson County with fictitious, expired, or fraudulently issued or counterfeit certificates are brought into compliance.

The goal of the program is to improve our community’s air quality and meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency air quality standard; as well as to raise public awareness and increase public safety. Counterfeit, fictitious and fraudulently issued inspection certificates are an environmental and safety problem. Vehicles that are not properly inspected for safety and emissions may be at a higher risk for traffic accidents.

Williamson County law enforcement officers have started identifying vehicles in Williamson County with counterfeit, fictitious and fraudulently issued state inspection and registration certificates. They are also targeting the individuals and businesses illegally dealing in fictitious, counterfeit and stolen certificates. Individuals manufacturing or dealing in counterfeit and fictitious inspection certificates face Felony arrest with penalties of up to 20 years imprisonment. If a vehicle is caught with a counterfeit or fictitious certificate the vehicle will be impounded and the vehicle owner will be arrested for a Class B Misdemeanor.
